Easy To Make 3-Ingredient Cobbler Using Cake Mix

I’m a fan of fruit cobblers. The delicious desserts are easy recipes and taste like a lot of time went into the preparation. It’s a dump cake meaning you just dump everything into a baking dish and no pie crust is needed.

Cobblers have long been a popular dessert due to their simplicity to make. The irresistible dessert also gives the ability to use any type of fruit base.

Simply pour your fruit of choice into a baking dish and then top with the cake mix. (From white cake mix to chocolate, you can use any type of cake mix, but far and wide the most popular is using a box of yellow cake mix.) Dot with butter and bake in the oven until the cake mix is golden brown and the fruit is bubbly.

Why are cobblers so popular?

Cobblers are a popular dessert to make for a number of reasons. Here are just a few of my favorite reasons:

  • Easy and quick dessert. Made in just a few minutes, cobblers are a great option for a last minute gather or a busy weeknight when you’d like to have dessert with dinner.
  • Rather inexpensive. Using just simple ingredients that you often already have in your pantry, the dessert is definitely a budget friendly option.
  • Versatile. Cobblers can be made with any fruit of your choosing. Either canned fruit or fresh fruit will work. You can even use leftover fruit!
  • Creativity. Experiment with different flavors of fruit together to create a unique concoction.
  • A fan favorite. Delicious and satisfying, this dessert can be served warm or cold and is popular topped with a scoop of ice cream.

How To Make a Cobbler Using Just Three Ingredients

A cobbler using just three ingredients is a dessert made with a box of cake mix, fruit (you can use fresh fruit or canned), and butter. The cake mix is used to make the topping, which is a crumbly, biscuit-like topping that is baked on top of the fruit. A crumbly mixture that creates a cobbler topping that doesn’t need a bottom crust. The fruit can be any type of fruit that you like, such as peaches, blueberries, or strawberries and is used to make the filling. Canned peaches, fresh peaches, frozen berries or fresh berries will all ignite taste buds. The entire stick of butter melts over the top of the cobbler as it’s baking.

What are the most common types of baking dishes used to make cobbler?

  • Pie dish: A pie pan is a deep dish and is one of the most traditional dish to use for making cobbler.
  • Square casserole dish: A casserole baking dish is a shallow dish with a flat bottom. It’s a good option if you want to make a smaller cobbler.
  • Dutch oven: A dutch oven is a cast iron skillet that is heavy-bottomed and can be used on the stovetop or in the oven. It is a good option for making a cobbler in the oven with a crispy crust.
  • Individual ramekins: Individual ramekins are small dishes that are perfect for making individual cobblers.

Here are just a few recipes for making cake mix cobbler that only consists of three ingredients.

3-Ingredient Cobbler Tips

You can use any type of fruit that you like in a 3-ingredient cobbler. Some other popular choices include blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. You can also use a combination of fruits!

Here are some additional tips for making a fruit cobbler:

  • Drain the canned fruit before using it. This will help to prevent the cobbler from being too watery.
  • Add a little bit of cornstarch to the fruit to help thicken the filling and prevent it from becoming too runny.
  • Add some sugar to the fruit if it is not sweet enough.
  • To make a gluten-free 3-ingredient cobbler, you can use a gluten-free cake mix. Or you can also use a gluten-free flour blend to make your own cake mix.

Canned Fruit vs. Fresh Fruit

As I’ve already stated, canned fruit and fresh fruit can both be used to make cobbler, but there are pros and cons to using each type of fruit.

Canned Fruit

Pros: Canned fruit is readily available year-round and is typically less expensive than fresh fruit. It’s already peeled, cored and sliced so it save you time.

Cons: Canned fruit is often higher in sugar and sodium. It can also be more mushy and not carry the same flavor as fresh fruit.

Fresh Fruit

Pros: Fresh fruit often has a better flavor and texture than canned fruit. It is also more nutritious.

Cons: Fresh fruit is not always available year-round and can often be more expensive than canned fruit. Using fresh fruit also requires more time to prepare.

Ultimately, the best type of fruit to use for cobbler depends on your personal preferences and availability. If you are looking for a quick and easy dessert, then canned fruit is a good option. If you are looking for a more flavorful and nutritious dessert, then fresh fruit is the better choice.
