Low Calorie Snack Ideas

Apples

You know that old saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”? It’s not that far from the truth. I worked in an apple orchard all during high school so you can trust me on this one! Apples are both delicious and nutritious. And there are so many different types of apples out there. Gala, granny smith, red delicious, pink lady, fuji, or whatever fits your particular taste. I’m personally a big fan of the honey crisp variety. Pair the apple slices with some peanut butter or dark chocolate dip for an added flavor.

Watermelons

Such a refreshing snack. Especially on a hot summer day! A typical watermelon is sweet, very crisp, and amazing when well chilled. You can change things up a bit and even give honeydew watermelons a try. Not your typical watermelon but still a great option. These melons are a lighter color on the outside and much sweeter and smoother on the inside.

Oranges

One of the best citrus fruits around. Instead of going out and buying some orange juice, buy a bag of oranges and make your own. It will be much healthier. Just squeeze them, and keep as much pulp as you would like. Add a little bit of sugar, but just not too much.

Strawberries

One of the most appetizing fruits out there. There’s nothing like fresh, cool strawberries on a hot day to satisfy your craving and keep you feeling refreshed. Try sprinkling some sugar on them or dipping them in dark chocolate.

Peaches

Delicious and quite tangy. Exactly what you need to be eating. They’re very nutritious and juicy. Try and avoid eating canned peaches or ones in syrup. Make sure they are freshly peeled and cut. This way, you avoid any processing that might have occurred.

Grapefruit

Another delicious citrus fruit. Similar to oranges, except with a more sour and distinguished taste. Just like oranges, try squeezing them into a juice. It will take quite a few, but it is well worth the tangy drink in the end.

Carrots

A nice crunch and this vegetable also helps with night vision. Try steaming them or throwing them into a vegetable salad. I also like to dip them in a bit of peanut butter or a side of fat free ranch dressing. Either way, it’s healthy and taste bud satisfying.

Lettuce

The most important piece to a lot of salads and sandwiches! I mean let’s be real. You cannot t have a real sandwich without some lettuce on it. And a salad? It’s almost every salad’s main ingredient. There are so many different types to choose from. Red lettuce, iceberg, leaf lettuce, artisan… possibilities are endless.

Tomatoes

Better for more than a sandwich topping or making pizza sauce. Just eating one plain is great. Or you can try sprinkling a tad of salt on it (not a lot)!

All of these are much better alternatives than eating junk food. So many great choices to help lose weight and get healthy.
