These burp cloth cupcakes are so easy to make. I first made these pretties for my SIL’s baby shower. They were the perfect gift to give the mom to be and also looked cute as decorations on the cake table. Originally this DIY burp cloth cupcakes tutorial appeared on the Dandy Giveaway Blog as a dandy baby shower gift. It was such a hit that it has went down in my list of best blog postings ever. *wink* Naturally it’s also my go to gift whenever I have a baby shower to attend. Here’s how to make ’em:

How To Make DIY Burp Cloth Cupcakes

First you gotta get yourself some prefold diapers. You can get them HERE. Sure you could just make the burp cloths completely out of the fabric of your choosing but the prefold cloth diapers are the most absorbent so just trust me on this one.  They make the best burp cloths.  You’ll also need some to accent the burp cloth.

In addition to the above I also used these supplies:

Bordette corrugated scalloped bulletin board border, felt, thin ribbon, easy crafts, diy crafts, long pearlized pins

I started by cutting a piece of fabric (in a rectangular shape) slightly larger than the center of the prefold diaper.  Then ironed the edges of the fabric in to make the seam creased for attaching to the prefold.

Next use pins to secure fabric down the center of the prefold:

Then you’ll need to sew around the fabric edge:

Aren’t they cute?

Ready to get turn ’em into cupcakes???

First, you’ll need to fold the thin part of the diaper in over top of the fabric (or under if you would like the colorful fabric to show in a swirl at the top of the cupcake):

Then you’ll need to fold it in half (long ways) again:

Roll it up like you would a sleeping bag:

And finally secure with a rubber band:

Now to turn the roll up into a cupcake…

Cover around rubber band with the corrugated boarder:

To decorate the top you can add a felt flower with the a long, decorative pin in the center:

Lastly, you can tie around a ribbon:

There you have it.  A burp cloth cupcake!

Remember how earlier in the tutorial I mentioned how if you fold the burp cloth in a certain way you will get a different look on the top?  If you choose to fold the burp cloth with the fabric showing on the outside then you will get the swirl effect for the “icing”.
