For me all of General Conference was powerful and filled with amazing talks, but I did find President Nelson’s beginning and closing remarks to be particularly poignant on Sunday. As the Sunday afternoon session came to a close my mind was on so many things. I think that’s why it’s so important to read (or watch) the talks after Conference is over. It gives us the opportunity to reflect on all that was said and to learn even more.
But it was the beginning and ending of Sunday’s session that really hit home for me. You may remember that President Nelson opened the morning session on Sunday about the temple.
“If you don’t yet love to attend the temple, go more often—not less. Let the Lord, through His Spirit, teach and inspire you there.” –President Russell M.Nelson, Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, during the Sunday morning session.
Wow. Did I ever need to hear that. Have I been making the time to go to the temple? Have I really?
He then went on to close the Sunday afternoon session with thoughts that are intended, in my opinion, to truly carry us for the next 6 months. It’s also some things that I know we need right now more than ever. President Nelson asked us to make time for the Lord and to be firm in our spiritual foundation. By allowing the Holy Ghost to be with us always we are then able to stand the test of time. I think what particularly stuck out in my mind was when he said, “If most of the information you get comes from social or other media, your ability to hear the whisperings of the Spirit will be diminished.”
So often I feel that I’m controlled by what I see and hear on social media. I allow things that are said, mostly that which I don’t agree with, to be hurtful. It’s most definitely something that I need to work on and I’m much happier when I don’t allow these negative feelings to impact my life.
Fix Your Focus On Jesus Christ
How can we best allow the Holy Ghost to be with us always? President Nelson instructed us to fix our focus on Jesus Christ through daily prayer and scripture study, attending our worship services on Sundays so that we can partake of the sacrament, and making time to go to the temple. The temple. His closing talk came full circle from his opening.
October General Conference Quote Bookmarks
When President Nelson instructed us to “make time for the Lord”, I knew that I needed to make some bookmarks. So I did just that! These are an easy way to be reminded of the powerful words. Be it as a marker in your favorite book, scripture reading, or even as a note taped to your bathroom mirror. Remember to make time for Him in your life.
And in true printable fashion… I also made free printable General Conference bookmarks that can be used for coloring.
