The Wiz is on stage right now at The Muny and it’s the perfect opportunity to take a trip over the rainbow! I was able to attend opening night and I have to be honest with you… this was the first time ever for me to see this particular show. I’ve never even seen a different version of it. Can you believe that I’ve never seen The Wiz before?! My husband was quite shocked by this news and kept saying, “You know. Michael Jackson?” Yes, I know who he is. But I guess that I never knew he was in a show titled ‘The Wiz’. How did I miss that in my life up until now?
Take A Trip Over The Rainbow At The Muny
One of the many things that I love about The Muny is the fact that the audience sings the National Anthem before each show. Last night’s show was no exception. Keep in mind that the flag ceremony was later than usual due to a rain delay. My friend and I were prepared with our umbrellas. Once the torrential downpour left the area, the crew was quick to mop off the stage. It was quite the storm!
I always feel bad for the actors, actresses, orchestra, crew, and all the employees when it rains at The Muny. Especially on opening night. They’ve all worked so hard to prepare for the show and then the rain comes in to try and ruin it all. But the show must go on! And last night go on it did. Despite the rain delay, the vast talent persevered.
Of course I know the story line of the Wizard of Oz and I discovered that The Wiz does follow it fairly closely. But there are so many differences. I was particularly impressed by all the talented dancers and beautiful costumes. Every color of the rainbow was represented in the fun costumes. There was even attention grabbing pyrotechnics. A great show for the entire family.
