EASY FAMILY ACTIVITIES
So many easy family activities all in one place!
1
WRITE AND SEND A THANK YOU LETTER

There has to be at least one person, who is outside of your immediate family, that you can send a thank you card to. Talk about it as a family and decide who. It can be an extended family member or even the checker at the local supermarket. Decide on who and then sit down as a family and make one card or several letters (one from each of you) to give to that person.
Want to do this more often? Pick someone each month and send 12 months of thank you letters!
2
TAKE A HIKE

Most parks will have trail of some sort that you can walk on. So this activity doesn’t have to be difficult or involve much planning. Basically just get outside and take a hike/walk as a family!
3
VISIT A NEW TO YOU CITY (OR PLACE IN YOUR CITY)

This family activity does not have to be far from your home. It can be near or far. This can be a city that is really close to you that you’ve just never visited before or a new vacation spot. Try visiting somewhere at least once this year that is totally new to you!
4
GO TO THE ZOO

Your city probably has a zoo. Or at least there’s one within driving distance to where you live. Make a goal of visiting the zoo at least once together as a family. It’s a fun activity and a great way to enjoy time with each other.
We have an amazing zoo right here in St. Louis (and it’s free), but we are making a goal to visit a zoo that has pandas. Because one of our kids loves pandas. Three zoos in the United States have pandas: Washington D.C., San Diego and Memphis
Where will we go?
5
TOUR A MUSEUM

Here’s another one that doesn’t need to take a ton of planning. A museum isn’t always in the form of a large exhibit. There are also smaller scale museums local to you. These can be housed within a historical building in your city or even at a school. You just have to look around to find something that you wouldn’t normally know exists!
6
READ A BOOK ALOUD TOGETHER

Kids love reading out loud. They just do. It’s a great way to spend time together as a family and kids really like showing off their reading skills. An easy way to help perfect those skills, too. Pick out a book (or two) to read together as a family!
7
REPAINT A ROOM IN YOUR HOME

Pick a room in your home that could use a little color and add a fun pop on one wall. Or paint the entire room! Involving your family in the project is a great way to spend time together. Will it be messy? Yes. Plan on it. And don’t get upset when it does. Dress in painting clothes and work together to accomplish a common goal. It will make a memory that will not be soon forgotten.
8
TAKE SOME PICTURES

And I’m not talking about family pictures! I’m talking about each family member actually taking the photo. Take your camera (or phone) and give each person the opportunity to take a picture of something that they think looks nice or find interesting. Print the pictures and then sit down as a family and discuss. It’s a great way to spend time together and learn more about the interests of each other!
9
BAKE SOME COOKIES

Baking cookies together is such a fun family activity. Easy to do and yummy. We love spending time together in the kitchen. Even if sometimes the cookies don’t turn out as expected!
10
PLAY A BOARD GAME

We love family game night. It’s fun for the entire family and it’s great when you let everyone pick a turn choosing the game. Have a family game night tonight!
11
TAKE A CLASS TOGETHER

This does not have to be an actual school credit type of class or cost money. There are lots of ways to gain more knowledge as a family. Look into an online class together or even a free art class on YouTube!
12
MAKE SOME TAFFY

Taffy making is such a fun family activity. I have fond memories making this with my own mom as a kid and a good taffy pull will have everyone laughing. Did our taffy turn out like hard candy instead of soft and chewy? Yep. It was still a fun time that I’ll remember forever!
13
TAKE A SUNDAY DRIVE (OR STROLL)

Sometimes you just gotta get out of the house and take a drive. A Sunday afternoon is the perfect time to all pile in the car together (or take a relaxing stroll) with no particular place to go. Just drive and chat while you do!
14
GO CAMPING

This family activity isn’t always a big production that involves travel. Camping doesn’t have to leave the house (or neighborhood). You can set up camp in your living room or backyard. Kids will remember all the fun where ever you camp out!
15
FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT

Grab some snacks, pop in a favorite DVD or stream a new film and have a fabulous time watching a movie together!
16
DANCE OFF IN THE KITCHEN

Kitchens are for cooking and dancing. We love dancing in the kitchen and a friendly but competitive dance off can be so much fun!
17
BUILD A FORT

This fort doesn’t even involve purchasing supplies at your local hardware store. Building forts out of blankets is both creative and fun. You can even build pillow forts!
18
PUT TOGETHER A PUZZLE

Such a nice and relaxing family activity. You can do a small puzzle in one night or go for one with lots of pieces over several evenings. Sure to be a great time where you can eat snacks and chat away while putting the puzzle together!
19
LISTEN TO MUSIC

Gather around a speaker and play some tunes! This is a great way to learn each others favorite songs and also explore new to you music. Also fun to get out the old stereo or CD player to show the kids what we used to listen on before everything went digital!
20
GO TO THE LIBRARY

Going to your local library is a great family activity. There’s story time and other fun activities that are free to enjoy. Be sure to grab some of your favorite books for the family read aloud!
21
COLOR OR CRAFT TOGETHER

Grab some crayons and paper or some coloring books. There are also a lot of different paper crafts that are perfect for the entire family. Try out some origami making!
22
PLANT SOME FLOWERS

Again here’s one that you can totally think outside of the box. And literally not outside! Planting flowers can be done inside and in a plastic cup.
That’s 22 easy family activities that you can do in 2022… or any year!
