Get excited, St. Louis! A brand new attraction is on the horizon for our fine city and I got a first hand look at the construction today! A water world is coming to the Gateway City later this year in the form of the St. Louis Union Station Aquarium. Read on to see all the reasons why you need to be excited for this coming attraction and view some of the artist renderings of what it will look like when completed.

I love Union Station for a variety of reason. It has a rich history here in St. Louis, from its active railway days to a mall that was open for decades. The early years of the mall life are some of my most cherished childhood memories. It’s where I posed for a picture with a cardboard cutout of President Ronald Reagan and where I got my plastic charm necklace. My grandparents had fond memories of when it was a busy train station and shared those memories with me by taking me to the mall.

Right now the old station is a very active construction site. I suited up for the hard hat tour and experienced a side of Union Station that I’ve never been privy to before.

So much happening to get everything in order. For those familiar with the way it was before, the entire mall space is being completely revamped!

Here are just a few of the many reasons why this will be a top family attraction for years and years to come.

As guests enter the lobby they will board a virtual train to the aquarium. And then…

 

A 250,000 gallon Shark Canyon that will house 60 shark and stingrays.

Other fish and sea life will be swimming in this ginormous tank as well.

So many indigenous animals to the Mississippi River. Even river otters which my daughter is thrilled about!
