5 Great STEM Educational Toys For Kids To Learn All About Coding
There’s still time for holiday shopping and kids most definitely have coding toys on their list!
What is STEM?
STEM is an acronym that encompasses science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. If you want to include the arts then you’ll add an ‘a’ in there to make the acronym STEAM. You’ve probably seen both used simultaneously, but I’ve noticed that most of the time people are talking about the one without the art.

History of STEM Learning
I like to think of STEM learning as a relatively new concept, but unfortunately I still think it’s the late 90’s or early 2000’s! At least that’s where I feel like I’m living. STEM learning actually came to be in 2001. By then I was several years out of high school (was supposed to be graduating from college that year, but that didn’t end up happening until 2008), so I wasn’t involved in the educational world when it was coined.
Can you believe that 2001 was 20 years ago?! Where does the time go? Of course STEM was around in my 80’s childhood. We just didn’t call it that!
