The weather is warming up and that means lots of outdoor time hiking and biking for our family. Before it gets too hot and humid out that is! Then we will be switching to days at the pool and evenings on the patio. As a biking family with a little one now in tow again we needed a toddler bike to get her comfortable with one of our favorite family activities. We found that the best bike for that is a wooden bike that can be used indoors or outdoors. Gets her used to the concept and is a lot of fun at the same time!

Best Wooden Bike for Your Toddler

I was recently approached to try out the new Hape Scoot Around for toddler outdoor fun. Of course my little toddler is the one who is really trying it out! The Hape Scoot Around is a wooden trike that is perfect for toddlers 12 month + to enjoy the outdoors. Or indoor if you prefer, because the wheels are just the right density to not damage floors.

What are the benefits of wooden toys?

There’s just something about wooden toys that draws people in. The toys are typically made from Montessori materials like birch wood and other natural material. Wood toys have become quite popular over the years. Not at all a new concept since wooden toys often get passed down from generation to generation, but these toys made from sustainable materials have indeed gotten quite popular over the last number of years. Perhaps it’s due to their eco-friendly design and sleek modern fun designs.

While there is an extra cost to toys made out of wood, the important thing to remember is these toys are often more durable and will last a lot longer. Hence the passing down from the generations. Wooden toys are also popular due to the fact that they are easy to clean with just a rag and mild soap and water.

Hape Scoot Around Toddler Bike

While Hape Scoot Around toddler bikes are not conventional bikes, toddlers aren’t yet ready for a pedal bike. Toddlers are still developing gross motor skills and learning. They need a bike at their skill level. The Hape Scoot Around is a good starting point for that. Before you get into the bikes with training wheels, toddlers really need to first learn balance. This little trike is perfect for learning balance with four wheels, two in front and two in back.
