A little while ago I found this website where this woman packs one single carry on to last her for 3o days. Come to find out it’s called a capsule wardrobe. I couldn’t believe it! Then I saw all of her outfits and she explains that you can really create so many outfits from just a few pieces. I really wanted to give it a try, so I gave myself a little Capsule Challenge. I started looking at my wardrobe and pulling out pieces that I could use to pack one single back to last me for a whole month. It took a lot of planning, but it is working out so well! My husband packed more than me, ha! It’s unheard of! I made several modifications to suit my life and wardrobe, although going out and buying a whole new slew of clothes would’ve been super fun I tired to make my clothes work. I don’t believe in “outfits” anymore. That might sound crazy, but every single piece in my wardrobe can go with at least two other things. For this challenge, though, I really wanted to see just how far I could make some of my pieces work. All together I’m using 20 pieces and I’ve come up with 36+ combinations! Here’s how it’s been going.
So first of all I wanted to tight roll all of my pieces to see if I could really fit it into a small suit case. The answer is yes! See for yourself. (the mechanical pencil is supposed to act as a reference point to gauge the size).
Discalimer: this is leaving out underwear and a bathing suit. But really, if you’re on vacation for a month hopefully you’ll have access to a washer and dryer, so I would plan to do laundry once a week. Figure adding in a weeks worth of under wear and a swimsuit to this picture.
Maybe later this week I’ll do an itemized list of everything I packed so you can see. But for now, here are my outfits from Sunday (mother’s day), Monday, and today (Tuesday).
Would you ever try a Capsule Challenge? Do you think you have versatile pieces in your wardrobe that would let you? Clearly my jean jacket wins in versatility over my red with white polka dot shirt. It gives you something to think about though, doesn’t it?
I’m loving this challenge so far! Do you want to see pictures of my hair too?
