How to make a DIY Harry Potter Basilisk Costume Perfect for Halloween

My kids love all things Harry Potter. The books are always must reads around here. And the movies? Well, reading the book is a requirement before watching the movie version.

Just in May we made the trek down to Orlando to explore Harry Potter World at Universal Studios. Was it ever a fantastic place to adventure!

I most definitely recommend going. Especially if you are a Harry Potter fan. However, it will be a few years before we return. We also went to the Disney World parks while we were in town. And while I’m sure we will be returning to Disney sooner than a few years, we will be skipping Universal on those trips. Universal Studios is great fun, but it’s not really a park that is a good fit for a toddler. There was absolutely nothing for the littlest in our family to enjoy. And family vacations should be for the entire family. So one day we will return to Harry Potter’s world in Orlando. Just not anytime soon.

When it comes Halloween costumes kids always want to be the latest and greatest. For many years now Harry Potter costumes have been at the top of the list. There are just so many costuming ideas to be found in the Wizarding World. Let’s open the Chamber of Secrets with a Harry Potter Basilisk costume!

Last year my daughter absolutely insisted on being a Basilisk from Harry Potter. Of course she did. Ha! She’s always asking for her Halloween costume to be unique and different from everyone else’s. It really can be exhausting at time.

This was the first time I made a Harry Potter Basilisk costume. While it did take a lot of work to come up with the concept.

Of course the face mask needed a Basilisk fang. Favorite characters.

Easy To Make Harry Potter Basilisk Costume

Such an easy DIY!

What you’ll need to make a Harry Potter Basilisk costume:

What you’ll do to make a Harry Potter Basilisk costume:

Step 1: Cut out a long piece of narrow snake skin fabric and then fold right sides together. This will create a long tube shape. It can be any length or width that you desire. I used a dark green and black snake skin printed fabric because the Basilisk from Harry Potter is known for being dark green in color.

Step 3: Use a ruler and scissors to cut two angled lines to create a triangle shape at the bottom of one end. This will create the pointed look of the snake’s tail. Then sew the tail end completely closed.
