We’ve been doing a lot of updates and organizing around here! Mostly in the hands of my husband. He has been having some really great ideas for organizing and getting our basement in order. First, he built some various size shelves for our water shut off valve closet. Then he designed and created this really great DIY Nerf gun storage wall. It’s amazing and the perfect way to store all the Nerf guns. Accessories, too!

The DIY Nerf Gun Storage Wall You Need At Your House

Before my husband started these projects, our basement was an organizing disaster. We have sooo many toys and it constantly looks cluttered. And messy. Despite our best efforts it’s just often a land of chaos.

Every year for Christmas our kids get new Nerf guns. That’s a lot of toy guns to store, folks! And it’s often what is creating the most mess in our lower level. So my husband decided one day that he would create a storage option for organizing that Nerf gun collection and that’s just what he did.

The end result? Storage options that are creating some order in the basement and I love the way it looks now! This DIY project is seriously such a great playroom idea for organizing more than just Nerf items.

How To Organize A Playroom Storage Area

Playroom organization and storage does not have to be a chore. It can even have a bit of home decor mixed in and look attractive. There are a few ways to organize your playroom. Most people like to use cabinets or storage units in playrooms to hide toys. Doing so makes it always look clean and tidy. Almost as if it’s not a playroom at all and just another family room in the house. But can a playroom be clean and tidy with giving away the fact that it is in fact a toy room?

It can! Toys don’t necessarily have to be hidden away from view to be considered not messy. You can display the toys in an organized fashion and have it worked into the decor itself. The perfect way to be efficient and serve a purpose but also show that it is indeed a toy room.

Why Should You Utilize Wall Space For Toy Storage?

Why not? Seriously. Basement (or playroom walls) are often just dead space. Use that space! It can indeed be the right spot for storing your Nerf collection. Walls don’t just have to be used for decoration (pictures, wall decor, etc.), but can be used for storage and organizing.

Where To Get Supplies For Making A Nerf Gun Storage Wall

All of the supplies for this DIY project can be found at your local hardware store (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) or you can order online as well. (See the links to the supplies below.)

How To Make A Nerf Gun Storage Wall Using Pegboard

It’s so easy way to make your own Nerf gun wall. This method is also perfect for storing other toys that can be hung on hooks or placed in baskets. Get creative with how you make it. The pegboard wall should truly be all your own.

Think ahead to which items you’ll be wanting to store, but also if you want things displayed in a specific way. What’s great about pegboard is it can constantly be changed. A moving display if you will. However, you will want to make sure that you have the right amount of hooks to display everything in the way that you want. At the same time just keep in mind that you can always get more hooks (or baskets) later to change it up!

Not really that many supplies are needed at all for this project!

What you’ll do:

  • Use a stud finder to locate the studs in the wall.
  • Screw the back boards into the studs of the wall to brace the pegboard.
  • Pro Tip: Make sure that you use more than enough screws to cover the area that you are working with and hold the weight of the amount of Nerf gear that you are intending to store. My handy husband suggests about one wood screw every few inches.
  • You can use drywall anchors to really secure the Nerf wall if it’s going to be holding a heavy amount of Nerf stuff. My husband didn’t use these, but if you are intending to hold a lot of weight up on the wall then these would most definitely be a good idea.

  • Affix the pegboard to the wooden planks using more screws.

Easy DIY Playroom Idea

Our kids love playing together with Nerf toys and this is a great way to keep everything organized. It also holds our Little Tikes TikeStix building pieces or other toys that can either be hung up or placed in the baskets attached to the pegboard. This project really is so easy to make, a great way to store our massive collection of Nerf blasters and only costs around $50 to complete!

And just round $50 to complete!

I hope you like this easy to do playroom idea as much as we do. Now if only we can convince our kids that they have to pick up the items each time they have a Nerf gun war… Like most things we will just have to take this one step at a time!
