Tissue paper suncatchers look amazing hanging in the kitchen window, but especially in springtime and Easter season. The decorations can be festive to go with any holiday and are generally filled with lots of color to brighten any room. Kids in particular love creating colorful suncatchers and then seeing their handiwork used as decorations. This Easter egg suncatcher craft is one that you will make again and again. Definitely a go to Easter craft to make each year and with just simple materials it’s a decorated egg without the mess!
Easy Easter Egg Suncatcher Craft For Kids To Make
It has been a little while since I used holiday window clings. While the decoration is super fun, the pieces always seem to get lost, become less sticky over time and it’s hard to keep those air bubbles out. Suncatcher crafts are an easy craft for younger kids to make. A great way to work on fine motor skills and kids can have fun decorating a sunny window at the same time! Kids love seeing the light shine through and it’s perfect for decorating.

Recently I appeared on News 4 Great Day to talk about all things Easter Eggs. It’s always fun going in studio and this visit was no exception.
Laura Hettiger is so great to work with on these types of segments. I showed up with precut templates to use for the 3 minute segment, but you’ll see below how to create your own. You can also see my video tutorial HERE.
Easter Crafts You Can Do With Your Kids
On the show I first gave a tutorial for an easy way to dye Easter eggs using just food coloring, water and lemon juice. Then I featured a fun kids Easter craft ideas. No glass paints or stained glass required to make these suncatchers! And while you can get the supplies at your local craft stores, I’d be willing to bet that you already have most of what you need to make you own Easter egg suncatchers without even having to leave your house.
What is a suncatcher?
A suncatcher is a decoration that, when hung in a window, reflects light and color as the sun shines through.
You can make Easter suncatchers with a craft kit OR your own tissue paper, cardstock and some glue!
Easter Egg Suncatchers
What you’ll need to create a Easter egg suncatcher craft:
- Tissue paper (The more colors of tissue paper the better!)
- Cardstock paper or construction paper (Use black cardstock if you’d like a true stained glass look.)
- Glue (You can also use double-sided tape if you want even less mess!)
- 2 Easter egg shape borders (Print off the Easter egg templates with the free SVG file here.)
You don’t even need a sheet of contact paper for creating these suncatchers! Unless you want your tissue paper to be enclosed. Which is totally an option if you prefer.
What you’ll do for this Easter egg suncatcher craft:
Make an easter egg outline. I created the egg outlines using my Silhouette craft cutter, but you can definitely draw out two egg shape borders freehand and then cut out with a pair of scissors. I just cannot draw an even line at all!
Add glue to one side of the Easter egg border.
Place strips of tissue paper over the glue.
Add a piece of string or twine at the top of the egg before placing the other egg border over the glue.
Secure the other border on top with glue.
Place in a window with direct sunlight.
I really like how these spring themed suncatchers turned out. So easy to make and look awesome hanging in the big picture window in my kitchen. The littlest of your house just loves staring at the colors of light shining through. And I can’t blame her. They are indeed pretty!
