Before Facebook there was the family blog. Remember those days? Everyone had a family blog with a blogroll in the sidebar. Everyone would post pictures of their kids and randomness from their day. Everyone would comment. Everyone had a Blogger account. Those were the days. Definitely a simpler time.
It’s how I got my start in blogging. I would post often to keep our out of state family updated on our comings and goings when we lived in Texas. My friends from college all had their own little Blogspots and we followed each other religiously. Then Facebook happened. (Okay MySpace happened first.) And then Instagram happened. Everyone switched over to the new age way of communicating. It was faster and in some ways simpler. At the same time more complex because now there is so much more to keep track of! So many spaces that virtually all do the same thing. And those little family blogs? Whatever happened to all of them? I’m sure they still exist somewhere. For the life of me I can’t even remember how to log into our little space from our San Antonio days.

My mother-in-law noticed my writing. When I would post about our family life people would actually read it. They enjoyed it and noticed my love for the written word. My MIL thought I should write children books. I thought I could make a living from home with my little blog. So I did just that. It was the perfect way to work from home. I started out with a little giveaway blog and then switched back to the family lifestyle world. Sure the giveaway blog had bits of family life mixed in, but for the most part it was, “Here’s a product. Enter to win.” That was clear back in 2009. I enjoy what I’m doing now. I love the community I’ve built. I hope that in some ways I’m helping others and hopefully I’m giving them something enjoyable to read.
Thanks for being here.
