About The NEW Smurfs Movie
Synopsis: When villainous Gargamel and his brother Razamel capture Papa Smurf, it’s up to Smurfette (voiced by Rihanna) to lead a crew into the real world to find him. Along the way, the Smurfs meet new friends and the discovery of the biggest secret, that saving the universe is an integral part of their destiny. It’s a new take on a classic favorite!
What are Smurfs and where/when did they begin?
Smurf History
Smurfs first appeared in a comic book series created by a Belgian cartoonist by the name of Pierre Culliford (more well known as Peyo) back in the late 1950’s. Living in Smurf Village, the stories follow the delightful antics of these tiny blue creatures as they try to avoid being captured by the evil wizard Gargamel. The comics were instant success. From there, the Smurfs become a global phenomenon with the popular animated television series by Hanna-Barbera animated television series that debuted in 1981. The cartoon ran for 8 years and it’s no surprise that the kids of the 80’s went on to create a following, among their own children, for the Smurf world to be reintroduced in the way of animated films.
What are the different Smurfs’ names?
Papa Smurf: This main character is easily identified by his red hat and white beard. Wise Papa Smurf is a guide to the other Smurfs as well as a skilled alchemist.
Smurfette: The very first female Smurf that was originally created by Gargamel (see about Gargamel below). She has blonde hair, is smart curious, adventurous, and has a kind heart.
Briany Smurf: He wears large glasses and while very smart, can come off as be annoying especially when using his catch phrase that begins with, “As Papa Smurf always says…”.
Clumsy Smurf: Constant mishaps and tripping abounds for this awkward Smurf.
Hefty Smurf: He’s brave, protective, spends lots of time exercising, and is recognizable by the red heart tattoo on his arm
Grouchy Smurf: As his name suggests, this Smurf is always unhappy and generally hates everything. Or so he says!
Jokey Smurf: Loves to prank everyone with his fun “surprises”.
Handy Smurf: The village handyman can fix anything and loves to invent new things. He can be recognized by the overalls he wears and the pencil constantly stuck behind his ear.
Vanity Smurf: You’ll find this Smurf admiring himself in a mirror and wearing a flower on his hat.
Greedy Smurf: Loves to eat cakes and other sweets.
Chef Smurf: The cook of Smurf village.
Lazy Smurf: Constantly tired and lways looking for a place to nap.
Baby Smurf: This cute little Smurf arrived magically when dropped off by a stork.
Farmer Smurf: Takes care of the crops and gardens throughout Smurf Village.
Poet Smurf: Artistic, sensitive, and loves to write poetry.
Painter Smurf: Recognizable by carrying around a palete and paintbrush, this artist love to paint whatever he sees.
Harmony Smurf: A musician who’s talents are not always appreciated by the other Smurfs.
Scaredy Smurf: As his name suggests, this Smurf is quite fearful and scares easily.
Sloppy Smurf: There’s always a messy one!
Tracker Smurf: This Smurf wears a feather is his hat and has great abilities when it comes to tracking.
Grandpa Smurf: Older than Papa Smurf but just as wise.
Nanny Smurf: This older female Smurf cares for the entire village but especially for the Smurflings and Baby Smurf.
Sassette Smurfling: A younger female Smurf created as a playmate for the other little Smurflings.

Who is Gargamel?
Living in a dilapidated castle, this evil wizard is the antagonist of the franchise and the sworn enemy of the Smurfs. He has a cat named Azrael who likes to capture Smurfs.
