Using canned pie filling indeed makes for the easiest cobbler and less preparation time. And if you don’t have a cake mix (another easy hack) then you can use the following simple ingredients to make this perfect dessert.

It’s no surprise that the most popular are cobblers made from apple pie filling and cherry pie filling. Universally those are popular pies as well. Cobblers made from cans of peaches, pears and berry mixture are also a favorite dessert. A berry cobbler recipe can be made with fruit filling as well, like mixed berry, blueberry, blackberry.

When it comes to cobblers the best part for me is it can be part of a low calorie diet. This is due to the fact that the cake (and carbs associated with it) are less dense than other desserts.
Easy Fruit Cobbler Recipe Using Pie Filling
This dessert is so easy to make and perfect for all year long!
Ingredients:
- 1 can fruit pie filling (20-ounce can)
- 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
Instructions:
- Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Place butter in a 9×13 inch baking pan and melt for a few minutes in oven.
- Mix the dry ingredients together in a medium bowl – sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in the milk until just barely combined, making sure not to over stir.
- Pour batter into the baking dish on top of melted butter. Do NOT stir together.
- Spread the pie filling evenly over the batter.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown.
- Cake will rise to the top during baking.
- Cool for about 30 minutes and then serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
Tips for Making a Fruit Cobbler
- You can use any type of fruit pie filling for this recipe.
- Don’t over mix the batter or the cobbler will be tough.
- If you don’t have a 9×13 inch baking dish you can use a couple 8 (or 9) inch square baking dishes.
- For a more decadent cobbler you can add a layer of chocolate chips over the batter before you add the pie filling.
- Top the cobbler with chopped nuts before baking for an added crunch.
- For a sweeter cobbler, you can add an extra 1/2 cup of sugar to the batter.
- If you’d like an even crispier cobbler then bake for an additional 5-10 minutes.
- If you want a more savory cobbler you can use a savory pie filling, such as chicken pot pie filling or beef pot pie filling.
- Making a fruit crisp (a similar dessert) is easy to do with a topping of oats, flour, and sugar before baking.
- You can also top the cobbler with a streusel topping.
Directions for making a streusel topping:
Combine 1/2 cup flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1/4 cup butter (cut into small pieces) and then sprinkle over the top of the cobbler before baking.

- Fruit cobbler can be served as a part of a breakfast or brunch meal.
- In addition to dessert, you can also serve fruit cobbler as an after school snack.
