A while ago I decided to explore some creative outlets I’ve been interested in, one of them being watercolors. I’ve always loved the way watercolor pieces look but I’ve never really known how to do it myself. My sweet hubby got me a couple of online watercolor courses for our anniversary. In one of them we learned how to make a fruit bowl. I really had no idea what I was doing. Thankfully the instructor didn’t start out with the bowl. We worked out way up to it!
My Green Apple
Basically half way through this piece I wanted to give up. It looked crazy lol! But that’s what I’m learning about watercolor, it comes in layers and you have to just keep going. If it doesn’t look right, keep going… It will!
The Fruit Bowl
I had to sketch everything out first. Thankfully I’ve made my fair share of 3D bowls in my day, and all of the fruit that I chose were round. Haha! That made it simple to start.
I felt the same way during this painting as I did during the apple. I wanted give up! I kept going, and I really liked how it turned out! I think it could use a bit more shadow… But other than that I’m pretty sure the bowl’s color is my favorite!
Thanks for checking out my watercolor fruit bowl! Goodness it’s intimidating to share art things with other people. You want to share it but you kind of make yourself vulnerable as well.
Have an amazing week!
p.s. If you have a small child in your life, make sure to go in to the situation where you share your art with them completely open to a harsh review! My munnchkin (upon seeing my green apple) said “yeah it looks like an apple, but why did you paint that egg too?” Haha I just had to laugh!
