How Kristy’s Great Idea Started The Baby-Sitters Club

It all started with Kristy’s great idea way back in 1986. Or at least that’s the year the first book in the Baby-Sitters Club series was released. I was 8 years old and Ann M. Martin’s brainchild was perfect timing for my love of reading. In fact I think she helped to flourish it into what it is today. So in many ways it wasn’t just the great idea of Kristy to form a babysitting club for the girls in her neighborhood… It was the great idea of Ann to create something an entire generation of girls would know and love.

I remember those days well. Going down to the local mall to pick up the latest book at either Waldenbooks or B. Dalton. So many memories. These days those bookstores no longer exist. Oh the 80’s. Life has changed so much! Now I buy book online or just check out from the local library. I’m not sure when the last time was when I was in an actual bookstore.

And…

Where to buy The Baby-Sitters Club retro books set!

I was beyond excited when it was announced that the original (first 6) books were being re-released! The retro books set contains Kristy’s Great Idea PLUS Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls, The Truth About Stacey, Mary Anne Saves the Day, Dawn and the Impossible Three, and Kristy’s Big Day.

And how cute is that collectible tin?!

Only downside is it’s only the first 6 books. I really hope all of the others are released. Fingers crossed!

I’ve been trying to acquire all of the original books but it takes time. Sure I had most of them myself at one time or another in childhood. I’m just not sure what happened to all of mine. They disappeared over the years and I think that I only have about 30 now on my bookshelves. That means I’m missing 100 books! Wow. Sadly I don’t have Kristy’s Big Idea either. Good thing I can get it now. The retro set is available at the following stores.

Barnes and Noble

Target

Jet

Walmart

Did you have a favorite Baby-Sitters Club book? Mine was The Ghost at Dawn’s House. I think I’ll have to read it again just for old times.
