Moulin Rouge at the Fabulous Fox Theatre is Spectacular
My Top 10 best musical list is getting crowded. Moulin Rouge! The Musical is SPECTACULAR. It’s no wonder that it’s the winner 10 Tony Awards. And you all… I had the opportunity last night to hold a REAL Moulin Rouge Tony!!!! Oh what a night it was.
I even felt spectacular getting all dressed up for the occasion.
I got all fancied up and entered a world of splendor at the Fabulous Fox! Before the show I descended into a spectacular universe that is the Marquee Room. Everything about the decor was made up to look like the swanky iconic music hall. And I got to hold a real live Tony!!
Oh what a night!

I think that the Fox Theatre’s website says it best with, “Enter a world of splendor and romance, of eye-popping excess, of glitz, grandeur, and glory! A world where Bohemians and aristocrats rub elbows and revel in electrifying enchantment.”
St. Louis is so very fortunate to have Moulin Rouge as part of the 2023-2024 Broadway Season at our very own Fabulous Fox. This outstanding production of a musical is also quite fitting for our city given our ties to Paris, I’m looking at you Ile Saint-Louis in Paris and then giving a nod to the Soulard French Quarter, but this show is just so much more.
Baz Luhrmann’s revolutionary film opened up the world of the popular cabaret to the big screen and since the story has been transformed into a format Moulin Rouge is a theatrical celebration of truth and love that spans the ages. It’s a story of a naive midwestern man who falls in love with a Plan on experiencing over 2 hours of amazement by arriving early and watching the pre-show on stage.

Everything about this show is breathtaking. On stage energy, musical talent, glitzy costumes, set design… and let’s not forget an amazing soundtrack. (Alexa, please play the Moulin Rouge musical soundtrack now. Thank you. Yes, I’m polite with my smart speaker assistant.)
Design Team is Dazzling
This entire show is so well done. From every angle, it’s all spectacular.
Spectacular Set
The theatrical set combines both the and the dance hall feel of the Parisian Moulin Rouge. I loved the feel of depth of this set. It make the stage appear bigger and only added to the immersiveness.
You won’t see the large red windmill on stage, but look for it on the back of a costume.
Spectacular Costumes
Glitz, glamour and a whole lot of frills, the costumes of this show have it all. Hair design and make-up design, also part of costumery and just as spectacular.
Spectacular Music
The music of Moulin Rouge will move you! It’s a new musical mash-up extravaganza that’s filled with iconic songs. Incorporating many musical features, you will find yourself tapping your feet to the music. From one favorite song to the next, it’s many years of music all rolled into one. In fact, you’ll think that Lady Gaga herself is performing in house!
Spectacular Cast
The cast will captivate you. They are all so very talented and can move from one musical emotion to the next as they switch to the various songs on stage.
Spectacular Dance Scenes
Moulin Rouge’s most emblematic dance, the cancan is just one of the many dance numbers you’ll be amazed by. The music hall styles of dance talent are just as spectacular from one to the next.
