Baseball/ Softball has always been apart of my life it seems. My older sisters played softball, and since the age gap is pretty big between them and me I spent a lot of time at the diamond when I little watching them play. My mom played softball/ fast pitch, and even played catcher when she was pregnant with me! Even My Man J plays on a summer league with friends. It’s always been the sport for our family from my Grandpa and his love for the Cubs down to my two babies hitting balls/ balloons/ anything round off of the T in our backyard. Now that I’m in my 20’s it only makes sense to keep playing, right?
I played t-ball when I was young, was on a fast pitch team (hello root canal!) when I was 9, and played on a city league team when I was 13. Whether is was a grumpy coach, mean teammates, or a few too many injuries I never really LOVED playing on those teams. It’s literally been 13 years since the last time I played. I was a little hesitant when MMJ’s co-worker asked if we’d like to be on a Coed league with him. In the end I figured it would be a nice break from the everyday and a fun time to spend with MMJ.
It was all too crazy that we were playing on the exact same field as my last game when I was 13 and I was actually playing the same position! Standing out in the field was just nuts! But we were having fun, no pressure just fun. Well then we started actually winning! Our team has a lot of great people on it, our jersey’s are grey (not my favorite color lol), but we look good and everyone is supportive. It’s a lot of fun!
Fastforward to last night. We played the first game of the night, we’re 4-0, and I just really didn’t feel like I had enough skills to be apart of such a fun and amazing team! I was telling MMJ and he told me not to worry, that it’s just about having fun and that I’ve been playing really well.
My last time up to bat we had two outs, and the bases were loaded. Their pitcher took his sweet time pitching, lot’s of pressure on them (pitchers… such a rough position), but seriously 6 seconds just waiting to throw… I was nervous (pressures on hello! Two outs), my legs were tired, and he was just taking SO long! I saw the first pitch come in, it was a little on the outside but I took it! I hit clean right between first and second into the outfield, they stumbled with it and I just barely made it to the bag. I got a runner in and that was the game! Our coach gave me the game ball! It’s been 13 years since I played, I’m so glad we decided to because this has been so much fun. On Tuesdays we play softball.
