Valentine’s Day is one of the best holidays for crafting. By and large, next to Christmas time, it’s one of the most popular items being searched to do on Heart’s Day. Valentine crafts are fun to create at home but especially so in the school classroom. Perhaps that’s why teachers in particular are often searching for unique crafts for their students to do on Valentine’s Day!

An origami bookmark is a fun bookmark!

Heart-shaped bookmarks are a fun way to celebrate in the classroom at school. So much fun to make and serves a great purpose to help encourage reading. Have kids make an origami heart bookmark at the school party or create together at home for a family activity. Such an easy DIY Valentine craft for book lovers everywhere!

What is origami?

Origami, or Japanese paper folding, is actually quite simple to do. Sure there are some more intricate designs, but for the most part if you take the folding step by step then you’ll be successful. The art of this type of paper folding dates back to as early as 1603 so this particular Valentine craft can also be a history lesson, too. That’s why it’s perfect for a school Valentine party!

DIY Origami Heart Bookmark Instructions

Such a cute origami heart! The heart shape is perfect for slipping over a page corner as a bookmark.

Everything you need:

Origami Paper (Due to its thin and flexible consistency, this type of paper works best for making the heart-shaped bookmarks. However you can always try using construction paper or card stock. In that case I would just suggest using a bigger piece of paper to then make a bigger heart. Origami paper is so much easier to work with when smaller paper size.)

Scissors

Pencil
