On Sundays we…
Go to church
Eat lunch with family
And then what?!
I have a 4 year old and 2 year old. As much as I would like to fill the Sabbath with church music and reading uplifting magazines, I have to come up with ideas to keep my little kids busy too. I’m always trying to think of things that we can do as a family that don’t involve the TV. It’s summer time! I want to get us out and make some memories while we’re at it. Well, so what better place to find an idea than to think look back on what YOU did as a child? Well when I was little we used to go see and count the deer.
Yep you read that right, we’d go see the deer. There is a forest reserve pretty close to our house that is full of deer. If you plan it just right you can go out and there will be quite of few. It’s pretty exciting!
A lot of my Sunday evenings were spent driving 20 mph around that preserve. My rockin’ mom would let us all take turns driving the car, we’d sing songs, and all try to guess how many deer we would see.
On this particular visit Munchkin was sure we’d see 100, Baby Cakes thought we’d see 5, My Man J decided on a low 4 (he’s only seen one in the whole 6 years we’ve been married and didn’t have high hopes), and I guessed 7.
We drove around, took pictures of pretty things, and didn’t see a single deer until all of a sudden we creeped (real fast, did you know that auto correct excepts the word “creeper” but not “creeped”!? haha) past a clearing and there stood a deer! It was shocking and amazing. I was able to get out of the van and take a few pictures. That was just the beginning.
Munchkin saw one drinking water that we totally missed! I couldn’t believe! By the time we backed up to see where it was it decided to leave… I was so excited and he was pretty proud 😀
By the end of our trip we ended up seeing 8. By the rules of The Price is Right… I won!
I hope you’ve had an amazing Independence Day weekend!
