I mentioned I would share any home buying woes that I go through with you; I hoped there weren’t going to be any, but of course there are! I would say we’ve come across different quirks in our new home, but we aren’t upset by any of them. There is one design flaw in the kitchen that has been maddening, and it’s all because of our titanic sized fridge!

When we bought our first house all of the appliances were included except a refrigerator. Because of this, we got to be extremely picky when it came to buying one. We always had small fridges. We had only lived in apartments, so we had apartment sized ones. We didn’t care about it really. But I think something happens to you when you get to buy something. We started researching the best on the market, the sizes, the temperature capabilities. I’d never in my life had to figure out just how big a cubic ft was. It was great! We decided we wanted a french door fridge with a pull out freezer on the bottom. This thing was mammoth! We went shopping and Menards had the one that we wanted, and it was on crazy sale because it was a floor model and cosmetically it had been damaged. It looked glorious. It would hold so much. We bought it!

You guys, this is our fridge. I love this thing! Never have I loved an appliance like I love this bad boy! It’s giant, we kept it when we moved, and I knew it would go perfectly in our new home! Okay so fast forward to home buying, I brought a tape measure to measure only the space for the fridge. I measured it 3, that’s right THREE, times to make sure it would fit. I was so sure. Welp, it doesn’t fit. This black beast is almost an inch too wide and an inch too tall to fit into the very specific space for the fridge. So it is currently right in the middle of the kitchen. Staring at me.

I was so upset, then I realized it’s really a kitchen design flaw. I don’t know why it is with kitchens that when they’re remodeled that they only leave the EXACT amount of space for their fridge. What if you fridge breaks down and you buy a new one but you can’t find that custom size anymore? Well, you put it in the middle of your kitchen until you can figure it out.

Oh my goodness I can not wait to get this in it’s place. We’ve hired a contractor to come out and fix it. It was meant to be, because the company we called was actually the company that built our house! Can you believe it? I thought he was joking. Not so! What a fantastic blessing, really! He’s going to make our enormous fridge fit fix the kitchen design flaw. You might ask why wouldn’t we just sell it and buy a new one? Well this fridge is just awesome! I can see everything that’s in it! I’m not a fan of side by side freezer/fridges because I can’t see to the back of the fridge when there’s food on it. And well the fridge isn’t broken, the kitchen is! Ha!

This is one crazy house buying woe, but I’m happy for the experience. I’ll be even more happy once I can’t paint this red kitchen and have everything in it’s place!
